Project
Hatch Auditorium at the Library Center
The Hatch Foundation proudly supported the Springfield-Greene County Library District’s need to expand their capacity to serve southwest Missouri but being the lead gift for the Hatch Auditorium. This new 500-seat venue strengthens the Library Center’s role as a destination for public programs, author events, performances, lectures, and community gatherings. Our goal was to enhance access to high-quality cultural and educational experiences, increase opportunities for regional partnerships, and create a welcoming, state-of-the-art space where residents of all ages can gather, learn, and connect.

The Hatch Auditorium represents a transformative investment in Springfield’s civic and cultural life.
Designed to meet the community’s growing demand for larger public programs, the 500-seat venue allows the Library Center to host a wide variety of events for the community. With upgraded acoustics, comfortable seating, and advanced technology, the auditorium significantly enhances the visitor experience while expanding the Library District’s programming capacity.
The space supports a wide range of events, including author presentations, concerts, lectures, dance performances, fundraisers, and youth programming. Its flexible design ensures that community organizations have access to a professional-quality venue for their own events, while also enabling the Library District to attract regional and national speakers to southwest Missouri.
The grand opening celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a weekend of public programming, reflecting the auditorium’s broad appeal and accessibility to patrons of all ages.
In addition to supporting the auditorium, the Hatch Foundation funded the installation of Vistalation, a permanent sculpture by local artist Michael Stelzer, installed in partnership with Sculpture Walk Springfield. Positioned at the auditorium entrance, the 12-foot-tall steel sculpture signals creativity and community engagement.
Through this project, the Hatch Foundation advances its commitment to education, arts, and civic life—ensuring that the Library Center continues to serve as a vibrant cultural and educational hub for generations to come.
